STUDENT VISAS

F-1 and M-1 visas are granted to students enrolled in full-time academic programs at INS-authorized schools who are making progress toward an educational goal.  Practical training following completion of the educational program presents the student with the opportunity to round off their educational by gaining relevant work experience.  In light of the recent developments in immigration law, it particularly critical that students maintain lawful student status and avoid the severe consequences of violating the immigration laws.

It is also possible for certain accompanying nonimmigrant dependents, such as those in E-2, F-2, H-4, J-2 and L-2 status to attend school on a part-time or full-time basis.  However, in most instances, these nonimmigrants would not be eligible to work either on-campus or off-campus.

Finally, individuals holding H-1B, L-1 and O-1 status are permitted to attend school on a part-time basis.
